The DVR is Priceless

November 4th, 2009 by Pam Rosemont

I can remember the day when I first discovered it. The DVR would changed the way we watched TV, they said. I had a hard time buying into the hype, but I still loved the concept. After reading more reviews, it seemed like this device really did deliver on its promises, storing television shows digitally for later viewing.

From there, I really wanted one for myself. Unfortunately, it was too expensive. They were more expensive than television sets themselves, as any new technology will generally start out at high prices. I was always missing TV shows because I’d forget to throw in a tape. The ability to of record things digitally was perfect to me.

If I was out at night for dinner, I could come home and watch my favorite shows a few hours after they were originally broadcast. I wouldn’t need to worry about a tape running out of room, or having to buy new ones.

Luckily, the prices came down during the following year, and they were soon pretty affordable. Panasonic’s Replay TV seemed like the way to go, and I decided to go with the trusted brand. There was nothing wrong with it except for the fact that it’d freeze once in a while, but this was rare.

Aside from this one minor complaint, everything else was great. My friends loved it just as much, as they’d come over to watch shows that allowed us to skip through commercials.

Nowadays, there are many more things you can do with a digital video recorder. The most notable, however, is the fact that you can hold a lot more programming on the box at once.

I can’t believe it’s been almost ten years since I first read about this device. At the time, it seemed like one of the most futuristic pieces of technology I’d ever encountered. Today, it’s common in most households.

I fully appreciate the fact that I have one in my house. My cable box broke a few months ago, and living without one made me realize just how useful they are.
