One reason many people buy flat screen televisions is because they can be wall mounted to save floor space. It is not as difficult as it sounds. First, decide on where you want to place the set. Once you think you know where it will go, try sitting in front of it at slightly different angles to make sure you will have the best view.

Before you finalize your plans for placement, make a mock-up. The box your set was packed in is perfect for this task. Cut a piece of cardboard the same approximate size as your set. Tape or tack it into place where you think you are going to want to mount the TV, and then see how it looks from the position you will likely be when watching it.

The screws for the wall mounts need to go into studs. If they are just placed into sheet-rock they will work their way free in no time. Usually, studs are spaced 16 inches apart. If you cannot locate them, you can purchase an economical stud finder. Make a mark somehow when you have located the studs you need.

Choose mounting brackets carefully. There are a lot of different kinds on the market, but they do not all fit every set. Depending on the style, you will need to know the screen size, manufacturer, and possibly even the model before you can select the proper mounts.

You might want to purchase swivel mounts if you need to change the viewing angle from left to right. You may have to mount the TV directly opposite the sofa, but an overstuffed chair may be your favorite spot to sit. If you have the ability to swivel the screen, you can sit where you like and still see clearly.

Once the location is selected and the mounting kit is in hand, you can now proceed to hang your set. Remove the back mount from the bracket kit and align the screw holes over the studs you plan to use. Make sure it is level and make a pencil mark where the screws will go. Attach the wall bracket, and check once more that it is level. Screw the second half of the bracket to the set and lift it into place. Slide it along the track until it is centered, and then tighten up the screws at the bottom of the track.

Mounting flat screen televisions sounds more difficult than it is. If you pay attention to the small details, it will go smoothly. Just determine placement, measure to place screws into studs, and check that it is all level. Then just relax and enjoy your set.
