House M.D.’ Season 5 on DVD

The verdicts are mixed for Season 5 of House, M.D., which was recently released on DVD. Whether fans enjoyed Season 5 or not, fans of the program agree that it was unique. For example, Cameron and Chase were not included as regularly, and some fans believed that the season was more overdone than other seasons.

Those that liked Season 5 say that the season connects with the viewers better than in earlier episodes, and that the audience learns more about how House’s is haunted by his mental demons. The general opinion is that as long as Hugh Laurie is in the series it will continue to be a top rated, smart television show. Even medical professionals who watch the show say that in spite of its over-the-top presentation, the show is very entertaining and does give the audience an idea of the difficulties a doctor experiences when contemplating a difficult diagnosis.

Fans who were rather disappointed by House M.D. Season 5 believe that the writing is uneven: the season starts out strong, goes through some less exciting episodes mid-season, then picks up steam during the remainder of the season. One thing that did not appeal to many fans was what they saw as an obvious and clumsy way of planting the seeds of a P.I. spinoff show by making use of a character that was not necessary to the story line. Other objections were that the character arcs were less interesting and that uneven writing prompted House’s trademark biting observations to cross the line into unwarranted shock value sometimes.

The 24 shows constituting Season 5 allow personal and professional boundaries to shift repeatedly among the major characters. Special appearances in Season 5 included eljko Ivanek, Mos Def, and Carl Reiner. The DVD collection has extras covering adjustments to Dr. Cuddy’s life, how the program is cast, and the level of veracity in the stories. The collection also contains a 100th episode celebration, and commentary for the episode about the patient with the “locked-in syndrome.”

Between those viewers who really liked Season 5 and those who were less satisfied, the vast majority report they still are entertained by the show very much and are breathlessly awaiting House, M.D., Season 6.
