If you’ve been shopping for televisions lately, you’ve noticed that you have many different choices. The old tube-style televisions now share shelf space with plasma and LCD TVs. There are many advantages to choosing an LCD television, which could make LCD the right choice for you.

Just from looking at an LCD television, you can tell that they are slimmer than a tube television with the same screen size. They even tend to be a little slimmer than a plasma TV of the same size. Also, there is a major difference in weight. LCD televisions are much lighter than tube televisions. They are even lighter than the flat screen plasma TVs, which can weigh twice as much as an equivalent LCD TV. This makes them easier to move around and easier to mount on a wall.

LCD televisions are also much brighter than other televisions. They also have anti-glare technology in their screens. These things put together mean that LCD TVs are easy to watch in a well-lit room. Having an LCD TV means you no longer have to turn out the lights and close the curtains just to watch TV.

Also an LCD television is not prone to “burn-in” like plasma and tube televisions. Plasma or tube TVs sometimes show “ghost images” left behind by something that was displayed on the screen for too long. These images interfere with what is displayed on the screen, and degrade picture quality. This is much less likely to happen with an LCD TV.

LCD TVs are also multi-talented. You can use them to watch normal TV or HDTV. LCD televisions have composite video input, component video input, and even RGB input for computers. Plasma screen televisions tend to have trouble when used as computer monitors. Text and still images tend to look jagged on a plasma screen, and plasma TVs have greater risk of burn-in. LCD televisions don’t suffer from burn-in like plasma TVs, and text and computer graphics look sharp.

LCD TVs are energy efficient because of their fluorescent backlights. Plasma TVs work by lighting up every single pixel on the screen, even the black ones, and that takes extra energy. On the average, a plasma TV uses 50% more energy than an LCD TV.

LCD TVs are very reliable. They have an expected lifetime of 60,000 hours of continuous operation. Even at 8 hours per day, this adds up to more than 20 years of life. In many cases, a worn-out LCD TV can be given new life by replacing its fluorescent backlight. If old age has caused a plasma TV to fade out, it can’t be repaired.

One more advantage that LCD TVs have over plasma TVs is that they aren’t affected by changes in air pressure. This is relevant if you need to operate a television at high altitudes. Most plasma TV manufacturers recommend they be used at less than 6000 feet above sea level. Above this level, a plasma TV often starts buzzing like an old neon sign. LCD televisions work at all altitudes.

Sony Corporation’s products have come a long way since its humble beginnings in Tokyo in 1945. From the radio repair business to developing rice cooking appliances to the electronics that made them famous, this company has always produced high performing merchandise that meets and beats the strict standards the company has given themselves. Besides the Sony LCD TV, they also manufacture transistor radios, Walkman portable music players, and tape recorders. Their products fit anyone’s price range without sacrificing unsurpassed performance and charming appearance.

LCD Technology- LCD technology, also known as liquid crystal display, is used in televisions, digital clocks, microwaves, car dashboards, calculators, stereos, thermometers, and weight scales. This technology works by blocking light and changing its intensity as it passes through a crystal and out the screen.

Features of This Class- The LCD screen offers the ultimate performance and quality that has made Sony the leader they are today in the electronics industry. These screens are easy to watch from anywhere in the room due to the viewing angle that can reach up to 160 degrees. The improved contrast levels make the screen easy to see even in brightly lit or darkened rooms. Bright, crystal clear and colorful images are achieved even though these sets require less power due to the use of fluorescent lighting.

This energy savings does not hinder the unit’s brilliantly colorful visual presentation by any means. These televisions are meant to last with their 60,000 hour duration in sizes that range from 20″ to 50″. Consumer need has prompted the larger-sized screens as well as low costs.

An Asset to Any Decorating Style- Every home would benefit from the fashionable, attractive exterior of these units that easily fit any decorating style. Many consumers prefer to display this unit on a favorite tabletop or family entertainment center. Others would rather it be mounted on the wall or ceiling with either a flat, tilt, or swivel-armed mount. Some opt for a hydraulic lift which secrets the appliance if not being viewed.

Environmentally-Friendly Television in Japan- An environmentally-friendly 32″ flat screen television was presented to the Japanese market in July 2008. This energy saver uses 70% less electricity than normal televisions but continues the quality and performance that Sony has always been known for. The amount of carbon dioxide produced is lessened by utilizing a more luminous backlight and enhanced filtering program that manufactures light more successfully.

The Sony LCD TV offers fashionable dcor and advanced performance that this company is renowned for. Every consumer who chooses this model will enjoy hours of viewing and listening pleasure from all its new and improved features and functions.

Are unbranded cheap TVs are a false economy?

Are unbranded cheap televisions are a false economy?

When you buy a TV or any consumer electronic item you should think about more than just the purchase price, you must also think about the future repair costs and the life expectancy of the Television.

Cheap unbranded LCD TVs and cheap unbranded plasma televisions that are manufactured by unknown factories may appear to be excellent value for money. Usually they are sold at lower prices than the comparable sized models from dependable known brands such as JVC, LG, Hitachi, Philips, Panasonic, Pioneer, Sharp, Sony, Samsung, Toshiba and Sharp. The specification that they offer may appear equivalent to the main brands of televisions and often the styling isnt dissimilar.

Why are the known brands of TVs more expensive?

It is easy to think that you are paying a premium for the badge on the branded models of televisions, whilst this is to some extent true there are other differences that justify the extra cost of the branded TVs.

Often the cheaper LCD televisions and the cheaper Plasma TVs are imported into the UK from factories in Eastern Europe and China and are distributed by unknown importers that dont have the infrastructure in the UK that the main TV brands have. This may well seem like a good thing since it keeps the costs down.

The manufacturers of unbranded cheap televisions dont have the same incentive to protect their televisions from being unreliable or poor quality. It isnt important to them if the televisions are unreliable or if they last for 4 years or 7years. Ultimately you wont be able to find out which factory manufactured the television, so you wont be able to avoid it in the future if you purchase an unreliable Television.

The probability of unbranded Cheap televisions becoming faulty during the first year or after is greater than for branded televisions because they dont have the same stringent quality control systems.

Major brand manufacturers of televisions manufacture better designed internal circuits with higher quality components to improve the reliability of the Television. Cheaper televisions from unheard of brands dont need to do this. Surveys that have been done by the magazine Which have found that this is the case and main brands of TVs like Sony and Panasonic regularly out perform the cheap TVs from unfamiliar brands.

Less likely to be repaired

Replacement parts are not as readily available on cheap Television brands as they are for the main Television brands. This is often for the reason that there arent any parts kept in the UK by the manufacturer for the unbranded cheap televisions unlike the main brand televisions so it takes longer to get hold of the parts.

What’s more it is more difficult to repair unknown cheaper brand televisions since they havent got the technical support in the UK that the major brands do. Therefore if an repair engineer struggles to carry out the repair he cant ask the manufacturer for assistance as a result it will be more likely that the Television cant be repaired. For the duration of the first year this isnt a problem since the retailer that sold you the cheap TV will have to repair it or replace it. Although after this period it means that it is more likely that you will have toreplace the cheaper unknown brand Television earlier than a main brand Television.

It is not unknown when a branded TV has had very poor repair history, for the manufacturer to replace, repair or subsidise the cost of the repair outside of beyond the 1 year guarantee as a good will gesture. It is improbable that this would happen for a cheap TVs from an unknown brand, which means that you would have to purchase a replacement one earlier than if you had purchased a recognized brand of Television.

Better performance on known brand TVs

The main brand Television manufacturers invest in research and development to improve the performance of the TVs. Accordingly the features, picture and sound quality will be superior to the unknown cheaper Television brands. Typically the cheaper unbranded TVs have poorer out of date components that prevent them from performing as well as the branded TVs. This is noticeable if you compare them side by side and can be seen in the reviews in magazines such as What Hi-fi and What Video.

Conclusion

The major brand TVs are better supported, better designed and they boast more features and they perform better than the unbranded cheap Television brands. As soon as all of this is taken into consideration the main Television brands represent a cheaper option in the long run delivering more value and longer service than the unbranded cheap TV brands. So make sure that when you buy a TV that is from a manufacturer such as Sony, Philips, Pioneer, Toshiba, Panasonic, JVC or LGand you will get superior value in the long run.

Toshiba has been improving their products since they became one company in 1939. This company is the result of two different companies coming together and joining as one. The name is also a combination of two names and it actually started off as a nickname. The name comes from taking the first parts of Tokyo and Shibaura. Toshiba became the actual name of this company in the late part of the 1970s. Toshiba LCD TV sets have evolved from just a few sets to many different styles.

Toshiba XV640- This series has two model types with the same exact internal and external hardware, but the screen sizes are different. One is equipped with a forty inch screen and the other a 46 inch panel. They both also have a resolution of 1080p and HD with ClearFrame. People who really enjoy playing games, whether online or on a game console, this television has a gaming mode to make the images much sharper.

The RV525 series offers four styles, ranging from a 31. 5 inch screen to a forty six inch screen. They are similar to the XV640 in every way except that this series lacks the ClearFrame with the five to five ratio pull-down option. Moving from these top models to the more mid-sized versions, there is the AV502 series with its resolution of 720p.

This entire series consists of three HD LCD televisions with screens ranging from sixty inches to thirty one and a half inches. There are actually two sets that have twenty six inch screens; one is an AV502R and the other is an AV52R with CineSpeed.

There are a total of three models found in this AV series, but two are under the AV502R heading and the other falls under the AV52R title. They are both LCD HD televisions with the 720p resolution capability and quick game controller responsiveness.

They also have 2 HDMI, instead of 3 HDMI like the RV and XV models. The AV502 offers sets with either a 26 inch screen or a 31. 5 inch screen, while the AV52R has just the 26 inch panel available.

Both of these televisions are superb for gaming graphics, just as the AV600 series is. This series of 720p resolution televisions come with either an 18. 5 inch screen or a 21. 6 inch screen. Both of these televisions also have the 2 inputs for HDMI and one for a PC connection as well. While the LCD and DVD combo televisions have all the latest technology, these Toshiba LCD TV sets come in both black and white, instead of only the high gloss black finish.

Panasonic started in 1918 in Japan under the name Matsushita. Matsushita started by producing double lamp sockets. Matsushita was founded and was owned by its owner Konosuke Matsushita. To assume a bond with the Japanese, Matsushita called itself National and took the name Matsushita Electrical Industrial Co, Ltd. Even though the company had several products throughout Japan, they had many products throughout Asia and had factories their also. Light fixtures, electric motors, and many other products were produced in these factories. In 1955 Matsushita started to produce audio speakers under the name of “Pana Sonic”. In 2007, Forbes Magazine ranked them has the 59th company, and they renamed to “Panasonic” in 2008. Even though most people think of Panasonic as primarily an electronics manufacturer based in Japan, it is actually a multinational corporation and the designer and maker of the well known Panasonic LCD Televisions. LCD is abbreviated for Liquid Crystal Display.

In the year 2006 Panasonic began to go from the CRT (cathode ray tube) to the newer LCD (liquid crystal display). The LCD is a thinner unit and quite popular with those trying to outdo their family and friends, it seems we need everything smaller and lighter.

Everyone wants things smaller and thinner, to keep ahead of their neighbors and friends. The real difference is that the CRT units are much thicker or bulkier due to the Cathode ray tubes.

The LCD is also much better in that it can go beyond the forty inch diagonal measurement that the CRTs are limited to. These limitations are primarily in the need for a larger beam.

Therefore, the television sets are unrealistic in the sizes above the 40″ models because you would need a much larger tube for a good quality picture.

As well as tremendous subtle details, especially in the deep black colors. The sets have also gotten lighter in comparison to the CRT models.

The sets also seem to have lost some weight as some of the models in thirty two inches went from a sixty to eighty pound unit to low forty pounds. The other great thing about the Panasonic LCD models is the ease of connecting devices to it. It’s a breeze. There are connections for antennae or cable by way of a coaxial cable, hook ups for DVDs, video games, camera hook ups and rear audio hook ups as well. If you want a greart television th Panasonic LCD is the way to go.

When faced with the need to buy a new television, one of the first questions that may come to mind is, “Should I buy an LCD television?” There are pros and cons to this decision, including issues of size, clarity, space, and longevity of the product. Can I use it with my current auxiliary devices like my CD player and VCR?

Exactly what is an LCD TV? LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. This is the same technology that has been used for some time for camera screens and cell phones. It is constructed of two panels of glass-like material, which are bonded together. One layer is coated with a special polymer which contains the liquid crystals. An electrical current is run through the crystals which can turn dark or allow light to pass through, thus creating the picture.

Although LCD and plasma TV’s look much alike, their technology is entirely different. Plasma televisions are comprised of individual cells. Each of these cells is filled with neon-xenon gas. When electricity is passed through the cells, it strikes blue, red and green phosphors to react. Each group of these phosphors is a pixel, or picture element; one tiny part of the whole image.

Until recently, LCD TV’s have been more popular in the smaller sized televisions. This is partly because technology caused the prices of the larger screens to be much more expensive than the smaller sets. However, technology is constantly improving and now there is less of a price difference, making the large-screen sets more available to the average consumer.

Many consumers wonder if they can use their LCD TV as a computer monitor. Most of them can be, due to the fact that LCD TV’s are an outgrowth of the LCD computer monitor. The majority of TVs have the VGA input connections necessary to be integrated into a PC. Gamers like to integrate their PC and game systems in order to have a large screen to play their games on.

Many consumers desire to keep their old VCRs even when purchasing a new TV. These VCRs will integrate with the new TV, thanks to the standard connections, however there is one issue to keep in mind. The resolution on a VHS tape is much lower than that on the TV, which will result in poorer colour quality, as well as a grainier picture than the consumer has seen on their old, analogue television.

If you decide to purchase an LCD TV, choose the right place in your home for it before hand. That way, you can purchase the correct stand or hanging bracket at the same time. LCD TVs have internal speakers, but you can integrate your LCD television with your home theater system. Be sure that you have the correct cables, and provide power surge protection for your new television.

LCD panels are thin and take up little space in your home, as well as using less power than a conventional or plasma TV. You can expect long life, in excess of 60,000 viewing hours, and a brilliant, clear image. The LCD television is definitely a wise purchase.

Every one is already familiar with standard definition television broadcasts. Most people have also heard of high definition but few have heard of Near High Definition.

Every one is already familiar with standard definition television broadcasts. Most people have also heard of high definition but few have heard of Near High Definition.

A Near High Definition is new type of television that manufactures have launched to enhance a SD picture so that it is Near to High Definition.

Is there any need for a Near High Definition Television?

Whilst there is an increasing amount of HD content available via Sky and Freesat it isnt possible to watch all available programs in High Definition. The only other sources of HD are Blu-ray and downloads from the internet. Furthermore if you arent prepared to pay a monthly subscription or pay for Blu-ray discs then the choice is limited to Freesat or a small selection of On Demand programmes and movies from Virgin Media or Tiscali. With such a limited choice of High Definition content the television manufacturers believe there is a case for near High Definition televisions that upscale the picture to allow you to make the most of your HD television.

What is a Standard Definition picture.

A TV picture consists of 1000s of little cells known as pixels. Broadcasts in the UK use the PAL system which in standard definition has 576 horizontal lines of 768 pixels across the screen or 768 x 576 pixels.

When a television picture is broadcast the moving picture is broken down in to frames. These frames are actually split in to two half fields A and B, where the A field consists of the odd lines and the B frame consists of the even lines. This type of picture is known as an interlaced image. When the two fields of each frame are combined or interlaced they create a complete frame as each field is alternately scanned or painted onto the television screen. Where the odd and even fields are displayed alternately each showing 25 times a second or 50 times a second when displayed alternately together, hence the term a 50hz picture.

The resolution of a television is determined by the number of pixels that make up the screen. The more pixels there are in a picture the higher the resolution and usually the sharper the picture that it is able to display. TVs that have a high resolution are called High Definition (HD) TVs.

At present UK broadcasts of HD content are at 720p (1280 pixels x 720 pixels) or 1080i (1920 pixels -1080 pixels) resolution. To benefit from this you will need a television that is at least HD Ready with 720p (1280 pixels x 720 pixels). Alternatively you can buy a Full HD Ready 1080p (1920 pixels x 1080 pixels) television although there arent any broadcasts that will allow you to benefit fully from this specification. The only source that is available is either Blu-ray disc or downloads via the internet.

The quality of the picture of a Full HD 1080P TV compared to an ordinary SD TV is around five times greater than a standard definition and hence the reason for the terrific image quality.

On TVs that have Near HD they use an upscaler to transform an SD picture into 1080P.

An Upscaler transforms an input signals resolution to the resolution of the TVs screen. Therefore if you have an HD Ready TV (1280×720 pixels) or a Full HD 1080P TV (1920×1080 pixels) and you watch Freeview or a DVD that has a resolution of 768×576 pixels the TV has to upscale the picture to fill the different resolution TV screen. If television didnt have a digital upscaler the image wouldnt fill the screen and there would be areas of the screen that would be black and unused due the resolution mismatch of the HD TVs native resolution and the resolution of the source.

The upscaling in a HD TV is performed by a video processing chip which first interlaces the fields of the frames that create the picture using complex digital algorithms and filters that interpolate the picture by estimating what the extra pixels and lines should look like. This is done to match the incoming signal resolution with the native resolution of the TV.

The quality of the upscaled image thats displayed will be determined by the quality of the upscalers processing chip, other electronics and the screen. The source signal quality will also be very important in determining how the internal electronics manage the picture and how they well they display it.

All LCD and Plasma televisions have an upscaler to accommodate the different resolutions of various sources so that they fill the native resolution of the screen. What is different about a Near HD televisions is that they use a much more powerful processor in the upscaler that allows them to do a much better job than other televisions.

The higher quality upscaling chip employs sophisticated software algorithms that approximate how the additional created pixels should look in the upscaled image. However this approximation isnt as good as a Full HD sourced image where the TV doesnt have to guess what the extra pixels look like. Any approximations will sometimes be inaccurate but an educated guess.

The first and only company to launch Near HD TVs at present in the UK is Toshiba with their Resolution + ZV TVs. These will produce a significantly better picture from a SD source than other standard TVs. This is done by means of a Sony PS3 cell processor upscaler which upscales the picture to 1080p.

The image cell processor compares adjoining images which it merges the detail of to improve the image detail. This gives an image that is lucid with rich colours. The extra detail means the image has sharp edge detail with noticeably reduced 3 D noise. Also the blue and green colours are enhanced to compensate for potential clarity losses that can result from upscaling. Also the contrast is improved in dark scenes but the light areas are still as bright. The combined effect of all of these enhancements is that an SD picture is crisper and with sharp edge detail and better texture whilst the flat areas are unchanged.

Upscaling Near HD DVD Players

Some DVD Players have a feature known as progressive scan that combines the deinterlaced images of the two fields so that they are displayed at the same time to producing the full frame. Progressive scan produces smoother movement, higher vertical resolution and no interlacing artifacts e.g. line flicker. Whilst progressive scan does improve the picture quality it doesnt generate more lines and pixels with more detail as an upscaling DVD player does.

An upscaling DVD player uses the same methods as an upscaling television. There are a number of upscaling DVD players from different manufacturers but non of these work in the same way as the Toshiba XDE model which deinterlaces the picture before upscaling it from 576i lines to 1080P Near High Definition quality. The picture on the Toshiba upscaling DVD player is improved with images that are extra detailed with brilliant colours and enhanced contrast by employing the methods used on the Toshiba Near HD TVs.

So should you buy a Near HD TV or DVD Player?

Obviously a 768 x 576 image isnt as good as a 1,920×1,080 image and no amount of digital processing will make them the same but a good upscaler is able to produce something that is closer. If you arent prepared to purchase films on Blu-ray, or pay a monthly subscription for high definition channels, and you arent happy with the limited HD content that is available on Freesat then a near HD product is the right choice. It isnt as good as a genuine HD 1080p source but it does deliver noticeable improvements in the picture quality on virtually all content including 480i, 576i, 720p (DVD, Standard Definition TV broadcasts and Video Games) all of which it will upscale to 1080p.

Also if you buy a near HD television and at some time in the future more free content becomes available, or you decide you are prepared to pay a monthly subscription for HD, then you wont need to upgrade your TV because it will already be a Full HD 1080p television. The only near HD products that are available in the UK are manufactured by Toshiba with their ZV range of televisions and the XDE DVD player but more manufacturers will have similar products shortly.

It is never a bad time to buy a new TV. Over the last few years the options have increased as new formats and technology has been introduced. Many people now choose to buy an LG LCD TV. These utilize the latest innovations in technology to have an ultra thin and flat screen with a crystal clear resolution and picture. There are models in different sizes including widescreen that give you a great viewing experience.

The term LCD is describing the liquid crystal display. An LCD TV utilizes thousands of LCD pixels that are lit from a backlight which creates an electronic signal. The shade and colors that come with this technology cannot be matched by other types of TVs.

The quality of TVs has increased dramatically over the last ten years. Many people still have old CRT models in their homes. If you have never watched an LCD TV before you will be amazed, it is a completely different experience. The resolutions are far greater, they start from 1280×720 and can be as much as 1920×1080 on the forty inch LG LCD TV. If you are a movie fan then there is no better experience than watching a Blu-Ray disc or HD DVD on a large screen LCD TV.

It is not just the quality of performance that makes an LCD television a great buy. They are also very stylish. A lot of thought and time has gone in to producing a range of models that do not look out of place in any home. Their slim size brings a chic and modern touch to any room.

If you live in an apartment or simply have a lack of space in your main room then the thinness of LCD TVs will come as a pleasant surprise. They can easily be pushed up against a wall so that you can utilize the rest of your living space.

The fact that the screen is completely flat also means more people can comfortably sit together to watch a movie or a sporting event without having to cram directly in front of the screen. You can get a clear picture from most angles. As the quality of the TV programs and movies that we watch increases then so should the TVs we use to watch them.

To check out the prices and range of LG LCD TVs that are available it is good to use the internet. There are many websites where you can compare the specifications and costs. An LG LCD TV is a great investment for any household.

If you’re in the market for a new television, you should know that Samsung LCD TVs are the best hands down. You should also know that Samsung is synonymous with this type of television, because all it offers in combination with the fact that they are well priced so that everyone can now afford them.

In the past, there weren’t many types of LCD TVs on the market, and those that were, were extremely expensive, making them items for the higher tax bracket consumers. Thankfully, that has changed. Samsung LCD TVs are your best deal for affordable and high quality television viewing.

The Samsung brand provides all consumers the opportunity to enjoy television even more by offering different styles and price ranges to suit all budgets. The difference in prices is directly related to the fact that there are more features, with the higher prices. Other things to determine the price is the quality of the picture, the resolution, to name but a few.

Whether you’re interested in watching your favorite sitcom, science fiction movies or play your video games, Samsung LCD TVs deliver.

Aside from the incredible technology that goes into these TVs, their designs are second to none. This is especially true for people who are looking to upgrade from the regular television that took up way too much space. For instance, those who live in apartments or want to put television in a small room were always limited to the size of the television because of the amount of space they took up. Thankfully, LCD TVs took care of that problem. They are practically flat and can be placed on a small piece of furniture or on the wall.

They are lightweight and extremely slim, taking up less than 2 inches from the wall and thickness, making it a design marvel. In fact, these types of TVs look like live art, rather than a huge box sitting in in the corner.

Of course, with so many competitive companies in this field, one needs to understand why Samsung is a leader. For one thing, it offers advanced technology great visual output and sound combined. It makes TV viewing an experience. The right client technology and appearance.

Moreover, their wide viewing angle allows individuals to comfortably watch television from various points of the room. The multiple quality speakers put out excellent sound. And to top it all off, you are able to choose from different colors so that your LCD TV is tied in with the rest of the furniture and look of the room.

There aren’t many manufacturers that offer all these things in different prices that give the opportunity to all consumers to a one.
