In the entertainment industry, theatres have always been a key character in the show. It is where the stage or screen is housed. It holds the seats for the patrons. It also sells the eats and drinks that cap off the experience. No matter which type of one you visit, the reason is to be carried away on an imagination journey.

Beginning in ancient times, there were outdoor stages. The comedies and tragedies of the day took place in the form of rudimentary plays. Entertainment was as much a custom in those cultures as it is today. Evidence of attending a type of playhouse can be found in ancient Asian, Egyptian and Greek civilizations to name a few.

As the entertainment industry blossomed, dramas have gone from one main place into many different ones. One such building might show mainly live stage shows. The shows might be musicals or plays. Some plays are funny and some are serious. Most major cities have at least one playhouse that puts on these live shows. A few of the largest cities, with an emphasis on the arts, might even have several.

In larger cities that have many locations for live shows, the performances can be divided up into types. One auditorium may only show performances for children. Another playhouse may have a cultural focus. The locations can be inside or outside, as in an amphitheater.

When the world of performing went from stage only to screen, a whole new arena opened up to the public. Movies houses are where most of modern society goes for performance entertainment. The mass production of film provided an opportunity for buildings to spring up all over the place. The public’s thirst for entertainment is satisfied by having a constant flow of movies and movie houses from which to choose.

As with live stage shows, the movie houses also branch off into specialized places. Some might only show children’s films. There are those that charge a nominal ticket price for movies that have had a run at the big cinemas. Just like in olden days, some show the movies outside. These are called drive-ins.

As varied as the performances may be, so is the stage set up. One of the more popular arrangements is “stadium seating” where the floor slopes up so that everyone can see the stage. The placement of the stage for live shows can be different as well. The more popular version has the patrons facing the stage with an area behind it, called backstage. There are also stages in the middle, like an island, with seating all around it.

Watching stories being told on stage and screen is a precious part of cultures ancient and modern. Theatres have been around as long as the art. The locations, topics, and arrangement may change, but the entertainment remains. The societies of the future will be watching from their version of movie or playhouse as well.

Karate Movies Entertain The Masses

Movies have been a popular past time in the United States and in other countries around the world since the invention of the motion picture camera. Even before sound was incorporated, movies have drawn flocks of people to theaters for a couple hours away from the real world. There are movies available to suite everyone’s taste too. Action movies, mystery movies, thrillers, science fiction, and animation are just a few examples of the choices available today. Among the myriad of movie types, Karate Movies have generated a cult like following and have made famous many actors who specialize in movies about Martial Arts.

Even if you are not fond of Karate Movies, chances are you have heard of many of them. Who has never heard of Enter the Dragon? Or how about Karate Kid? These movies and many other’s that featured karate have become icons and are watched over and over again by people who both enjoy and appreciate the genre.

Even if you aren’t particularly fond of karate movies or maybe you just haven’t seen many of them there is no doubt you recognize the name Bruce Lee. Born in America and raised in Hong Kong, Lee returned to the United States to finish school. The son of an actor, Lee found his way into the movies and starred in many of the most famous martial arts movies such as Enter the Dragon and Fist of Fury. He was successful until his untimely death at only 32 years old. He may very well be the most popular actor in the martial arts movie category.

Another actor made famous through his roles in karate movies, Chuck Norris, who was born in Oklahoma, moved from a member of the United States Air Force to acting. His first role came in 1969 and he first starred in a movie in 1977. He was also in Way of the Dragon cast along side Bruce Lee, and he made many other popular martial arts movies, to include An Eye for An Eye. While some may think of home gyms when they think of Chuck Norris, most know him for his tough guy image and his roles in karate movies.

Jackie Chan is another actor made famous though acting in movies that featured Martial Arts. Chan has performed many roles in the entertainment industry, however his is generally credited with defining the comedic kung fu genre with his 1978 movie called Snake in the Eagles Shadow.

Each of these men, along with others, ironically might not have become recognized around the world had it not been for their fame in martial arts movies, and each in his own way helped to make karate movies the popular choice among moviegoers today.

Other movies, such as the Matrix series, deserve mention here too, if not more their karate movie categorization then for their heavy reliance of the martial arts as a major feature and selling point.

Karate movies have a cult like following that promises to keep them coming for years, and the movie going people of the world will continue to show up.

Looking for some action packed karate movies? Then go and view one of the largest movie databases around, where you have a wide selection of karate movies and martial arts movies to choose from.

Which Film Is Going To Win The Best Picture Academy Award?

March 7th 2010, the time that all those film fanatics will be waiting for. The Academy Awards will see that Hollywood is working nonstop for the next month.

So many awards are won during the year but none are as prestigious as the Oscar, and that is the one I have chosen to talk about in this article.

The best picture Oscar is the one that we remember most each year. Every director becomes a living legend after winning an award like this, and more importantly, secures the budgets in the future to replicate their masterful works with new movies.

Ten films this year have been nominated for the best picture award so following the race will be quite fun considering that there are more worthy contenders than usual.

Up, the Disney film of the year would be an unlikely win, even though it was a great film that moviegoers as well as critics really enjoyed.

An old man travels the world in a kind of house balloon with a child. It was a great film that came with a heart warming story and people are viewing Up as a possible award winner for this year Oscars.

The Coen Brothers came up with the film, A Serious Man, this was a dark comedy that people found to be excellent even though it didn’t get to be a box office hit.

Another possibility is Inglorious Basterds, the Quentin Tarantino movie that many believe brought him back to form. If this movie doesn’t win it, it’s likely that a best actor or best supporting Oscar could be in the cards.

James Cameron’s Avatar, of course is the favorite to win this year. Everyone loved it as it had a refreshing style like no other. But you can never tell for sure, we will just have to wait until the cards are opened out on the night.

Events To Look Forward To In The Month Of February

When you think of the month of February, there’s probably not much good that you associate with it. After all, the weather is cold, the sun goes down early, and there’s not too much to enjoy as the time passes.

The good news is that there are good things that come with the month of February too. It’s simply a matter of looking forward to these events, as they’ll certainly help the shortest month of the year to go by even more quickly.

Let’s take a look at a few things to look forward to during the second month of the year. Maybe you’ll even learn about something new in the process.

There are a few holidays during the course of the month, and holidays always help to make things interesting. While Groundhog’s Day, the first one to hit during February, isn’t too interesting, anyone who hates winter will appreciate it since it truly marks the impending arrival of spring.

If there’s someone special in your life, Valentine’s day will give you the opportunity to do something fun and romantic with your loved one. Maybe you can even plan a weekend getaway for the two of you, as the holiday falls on a Sunday this year.

A week after that, President’s Day comes. Students love this for the fact that a day off or an extended break may come with it, but many employers offer the day off to their workforce too. Enjoy your free time if you don’t have to work on this holiday.

Now that we’ve covered the annual holidays, let’s take a look at some of the exciting developments in the sports world that are primed to take place during the course of the month. It all starts with the winter Olympic games in Canada, as the best athletes from around the world will convene to compete with one another for two weeks.

Racing fans will also be delighted to know that NASCAR once again resumes, as the year starts off with the Daytona 500 on the second Sunday of the month.

Did Mark Cuban Make The Right Moves For The Dallas Mavericks?

The Dallas Mavericks have maintained a steady presence in the NBA’s Western Conference. After years and years of disappointing seasons, Mark Cuban’s ownership of the franchise has resulted in many positive moves.

The team established itself as an elite force in the Western Conference and a heavy slew of talent has always been present in Dallas.

The last two seasons have been somewhat disappointing for the Dallas Mavericks compared to seasons past. Mark Cuban has realized this, and has elected to do something about it.

The Mavericks have had an extremely eventful off season, highlighted by some big name signings that may have a profound impact on the team.

The Western Conference is loaded with very good teams and winning the West will prove to be very difficult for the Mavs. Dirk can’t win games by himself all the time and will need even more help from players like Jason Terry, Josh Howard and newly acquired Shawn Marion.

It seems as if the Mavs can score plenty of points now – but can they stop anyone on defense. To win games in the playoffs teams must stop opposing teams in critical situations; the Mavs do not have a shut down type player. Opposing teams scoring average was in the middle of the league at 15th.

Shawn Marion has been on a few teams as of late but hopefully he can find success on the Mavs. Marion is a very good player who should give the Mavs another scoring threat. This will help open things up for Dirk.

The Mavs have won 50 or more games every season since the 00′-01′ season which shows great consistency. Dirk Nowitzki isn’t getting any younger and he might only have 2-3 more seasons where is he an elite player with an opportunity for a championship. The Mavs would like to get another shot at the NBA Finals – and this time finish their opponents.

Rebuilding Years for the Oakland Raiders

From 2003 to 2008, the Oakland Raiders have a record of 24-72, and they have perfected the art of the 4-12 season. The Raiders have been going nowhere fast and the 09′ season doesn’t seem to be any different.

The Raiders offense is one of the worst in the league and former number 1 pick JaMarcus Russell completion percentage is around 40%. In Russell’s defense, the Raiders don’t have Larry Fitzgerald or Reggie Wayne either – even so, that doesn’t excuse the very low completion percentage.

The Raiders need a variety of help at nearly ever position on their team. Sign’s of improving happened in week 1 when they took the San Diego Chargers to limit but failed to capitalize on critical moments in the game which could have sealed the victory.

Despite the loss, many were fairly impressed with the overall performance in the Raiders in the opening week.

While Russell hasn’t been as good as they’d like him to be, he’s undoubtedly better this year than last, and he’s making less mistakes than he did in 2008.

The Raiders somehow almost beat the Chargers during the first game of the season. In front of the entire nation on Monday night football, they carried a lead into the 4th quarter and would have won if not for the heroics of Philip Rivers on the final drive. In week 2 though, the Oakland Raiders beat the Chiefs.

It’s no secret that the Chiefs aren’t seen as one of the better teams in the NFL, but they were still favored to defeat the Raiders in this game. The Raiders, however, played some efficient football (especially defensively against new Kansas City quarterback Matt Cassel), and ended up with a–10 win.

We’ll see where things end up at the end of the season, but for now, the Raiders have a sense of hope that they haven’t had in years. Raiders nation will gladly take that.

Hasselbeck Out For Seattle Seahawks

The ‘08 season for the Seattle Seahawks was a lost season if you will – no one could stay healthy and the season was over before it began.

The 09′ season for the Seahawks should be well improved — the Seahawks might not be Super Bowl contenders but should compete in every game they are in.

New head coach Jim Mora should have his team ready week in and week out and the embarrassment of the 08′ season will be forgotten. He’s the type of no non-sense coach and going to make some quick improvements this season.

Matt Hasselback proved when he is healthy he is one of the most efficient QB’s in the NFL — the problem is he hasn’t been able to stay healthy the last couple seasons.

Since their Super Bowl appearance in 05′ – between 06′-08′ – the Seattle Seahawks have a record of 23-25 in the regular season and 2-2 in the playoffs. The Seahawks need to improve a great deal on offense if they hope to contend for the NFC West title – the Seahawks are in the bottom third in offense in the NFL.

QB Seneca Wallace has stepped in for Hasselback and has done fairly well — completing around 61% of his pass attempts. The acquisition of T.J. Houshmandzadeh gives the QB’s of the Seahawks a number one option. WR Nate Burleson has had a good season averaging over 10 yards per catch. Burleson only played one game in the 08′ season.

Week 2 wasn’t as kind to them, as the team lost in San Francisco to the 49ers, a fellow NFC West team. Not only did they lose the game, but Hasselbeck took a serious shot.

If the Seahawks can stay healthy for the majority of the season they are an easy 8 win team — which is double the wins from last season. The Seahawks have their coveted “12th man” with the home crowd which makes it difficult for opponents to play them on their own turf.

Tennessee Titans Keep Falling

Who would have expected the Tennessee Titans to open up the season with an 0-2 record? After a successful 2008 season, it’s shocking.

The Titans dominated their competition during the 2008 regular season. If my memory serves me right, I think they won their first 10 games before losing one in November. This is the kind of Tennessee Titans football that I’m used to seeing, and I’m stunned to see that they’ve dropped their first two to open the season.

Many thought this was a Super Bowl team last season. I think I thought so myself. They made a few changes during the off-season that seemed positive.

The acquisition of Nate Washington at wide receiver and a few other players made it seem like this team would be just fine, despite the fact that they lost their best defender in Albert Haynseworth.

So maybe their week 1 result was to be expected. After all, just about any team visiting the defending super bowl champions (especially when it’s an away game to open the season) would probably be expected to lose. So it was a tough game that they had to play at some point, and they got it out of the way. They even played pretty well, so one could call it a respectable loss.

With the loss of DT Albert Haynesworth, the Titans defense may not be as strong as it once was but they still have defensive skill players such as Cortland Finnegan, Chris Hope, Keith Bulluck, and Nick Harper.

It is hard to believe that a team coached by Jeff Fisher will continue to play this way for an entire NFL season.

After two weeks of the NFL season, the Titans find themselves in the cellar of the AFC South. Quite the change from last year.

New England Patriots Slow Start

Tom Brady is back in New England, and football fans have generally expected the team to pick up right where it left off before he went down. Unfortunately for Patriots fans, this isn’t the case.

The New England Patriots now are built on competing to win Super Bowls, not missing the playoffs. With Brady again at the helm the Patriots are looking to pick up where they left off from the 07′ season when they set countless NFL scoring records.

Most notably, the additions of veteran running back Fred Taylor and prominent wide receiver Joey Galloway add some more depth to an already dangerous offense, and make the team that much more likely to put massive point totals on the board each week.

The New York Jets defense controlled the majority of the game and put Tom Brady off his game all day (New York Jets defense is one of the best in the NFL).

However, the Jets weren’t prepared to accept this fate and made a bold statement against Brady during their week 2 matchup. They essentially made Tom Brady look like a rookie quarterback looking to find his way.

The Patriots can move the chains in between the 20s but can’t seem to find the end zone as much as they are used to. It’s not as if the Patriots lack the weapons, as they have WR Randy Moss, WR Wes Welker, WR Benjamin Watson, WR Joey Galloway, and RB Fred Taylor. Chemistry is very important between wide receivers and quarterbacks obviously.

His week 2 effort wasn’t nearly as effective. The Jets put Brady through his first game since 2005 without throwing a touchdown pass. It was also his first regular season loss since December, 2006. Brady looked like a rookie quarterback, while Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez looked as polished as Brady usually does.

Will the real Tom Brady please stand up? Perhaps we’ll see him during week 3. If not, there will be a ton of disappointed fans in New England.
